Get Helio With No Contract

Posted in: Misc, Music, Video

helio

If you don’t know already, there’s a MySpace cellphone out there called Helio. You can check your MySpace messages, upload photos, make bulletins, and pretty much everything else. There are two models available, and of course the more expensive one is way doper than the other. It has a 2.2″ screen, 70MB of memory, a 2MP digital camera with 4x zoom, built in speakers, and full on MP3/MPEG support. If you’re skeptical about the new Helio, they are currently offering a no-strings-attached promotion in which MySpace members can get Helio without a contract and therefore no early termination fees.

Natural Causes / Nurcha Records

Posted in: Music

naturalcausescrewI’ve never come across any homegrown Australian hip-hop, but if the crew Natural Causes is any indication of what’s going on over there then the scene must be alive and well. Natural Causes is a group of four guys from Syndey who all have some serious skill on the mic and at one point they even landed the #1 spot in the hip-hop/rap category in Australia.

They are part of an emerging force in Australian hip-hop called Nurcha Records. Nurcha is an independent label that is home to a host of other groups just like Natural Causes, and it’s a very active about throwing shows in Australia, even areas that have never seen hip-hop before. Much repsect to Natural Causes and Nurcha Records.

Video: Diddy on MySpace

Posted in: Music, Video

I guess I’m out of the MTV loop these days. Apparently P. Diddy aka Puff Daddy aka Diddy has been on MySpace since February or so. Lately he’s been updating his MySpace blog quite a bit with everything from video blog entries, to pics of him in Monte Carlo and St. Tropez. Kinda cool to see this media mogul in a different light.

Soularis

Posted in: Music

soularisWho said that house music has to be all electronic? Based in Manchester, UK, a group called Soularis is receiving worldwide attention for their music which is created using a 5 person band with 2 vocalists. The result is house music that has REAL funk and groove to it - all other house productions should be ashamed of themselves after listening to this!

Soularis is the brainchild of producer Jonathan Dunn, who is well-known in his own right with remixes on a variety of top labels under his belt. Take a listen for yourself and I can just about guarantee that you won’t be disappointed by the lush vocals, smooth bongo procussions, and cool guitar riffs. Visit Soularis.co.uk for more audio samples.

Secondhand Serenade

Posted in: Guys, Music

johnveselyTo the 100,000+ MySpace members who are already his friend, John Vesely aka Secondhand Serenade is perhaps one of the most talented and popular unsigned musical artists out there. The growing buzz at John’s shows and a rapidly growing online fanbase were more than enough proof that his brand of love-struck and heart-broken emo lyrics in combination his impeccable acoustic guitar playing had the potential to be huge. So unlike many artists who would’ve immediately gone to the record labels, John decided to hit the studios and self-produce his debut album, Awake. He funded the entire thing and cut no corners in the process. The result is an unvarnished work of musical art created in the vision of the man himself. Definately not secondhand in any way shape or form.

I don’t care if you are a sworn enemy of emo music, push aside your gangster image and ego for a minute and listen to any of the four songs on his MySpace player. After listening and you break down and cry like a little baby, take solace in the fact that you can order the album online (via Paypal), so you don’t have to show your face at the local record store and feel like a wuss. John, seriously man. Your music is easily some of the best I’ve come across on MySpace. Period.

ErrorFM

errorfm

The internet allows just about anyone to be an over-the-internet DJ these days, but there are only a select few that can step it up to a professional level. ErrorFM is an independent non-profit internet radio station based out of the UK. It started out as a random music stream from a single PC by a guy named Emohawk. In 2002, Emohawk decided that he wanted to step it up big time and create the international station that would stream the best music 24/7. There’s no musical discrimination at ErrorFM, as just about every genre can be heard depending on who is the DJ at that moment. From rock, to indie hip-hop, to international tunes you’ve never heard of, it can all be found on Error FM.

If you are interested in DJing for ErrorFM, there’s an application you can fill out to get your chance at internet stardom. Check the online schedule to see what’s streaming right now!
