Dr. Oktoe

Posted in: Music

oktoe

If you want to get hooked up with some quality instrumentals, then check out this guy named Dr. Oktoe. These aren’t any ordinary beats though, they have a real nice ambient, jazzy, trip-hop sound that make ‘em great for listening to while chillin out. Three of the four tracks are downloadable, so be sure to stop by his profile for that at the very least.

Sage Francis Hater

Posted in: Music

croodA lot of people on MySpace are trying to make a name for themselves, but it should never be at the expense of another. Case in point is this guy I came across who goes by the name Crood. His MySpace profile is called RIP Sage Francis and it’s basically a page dedicated to hating on Sage Francis and calling him a homosexual. I mean it’s crazy. This guy Crood is a nobody and he’s trying to make a name for himself by defaming Sage’s rep. Not that it carries any weight, but still. Crood wins the Best MySpace Hater award from SpaceCadetz.

Video: Diddy Gettin’ Off

Posted in: Music, Video

Here’s another MySpace video of Diddy doing some crazy ish that only his MySpace friends will see. He’s basically horsing around in the studio and dancing to a track on his upcoming album, due out in October. I can see it now.. the ultimate dance battle would be Diddy vs. Sage Francis.

MySpace: A Place for Hip-Hop

Posted in: Music, Video

aplaceforhiphop

MySpace is not one to rest on its laurels, and as proof I present to you MySpace’s A Place for Hip-Hop profile. The integration in this profile is really top-notch and it touches on virtually all aspects of the hip-hop scene from the most mainstream to the independents as well. You’ve got exclusive video interviews with Kanye West and Method Man, links to event profiles like The Power 106 Summer Splash concert, featured DJs, and a very active integrated forum. To provide daily news, MySpace smartly partnered with the most popular hip-hop website in the world, SOHH.com.

The fancy layout and graphics definately draw people in, but it’s the exclusive interviews that really lend an authentic flavor to A Place for Hip-Hop. Well done, MySpace. Check out Method Man’s interview below….

Streetwise

Posted in: Music, Art, Fashion

streetwiseBuzz-building company Streetwise Concepts & Culture has a dope MySpace profile and rightfully so. Streetwise is a network of 70,000 young adults that various companies tap into when they want to hype up upcoming product launches like a new movie or video game. For example, members can pick from various teams to participate in that currently include Dave Matthews Band, Talladgea Nights, and the Nokia Unwired campaign. Upon signing up to a team, members receive free music, tshirts, DVDs, video games, and lots more to help spread the word among their peers.

It’s pretty obvious that having a strong MySpace presence is an absolute must for recruiting more members and spreading the word about existing campaigns. Their roster of 70,000 members dwarfs their MySpace friend list of 3,800+, which is kind of ironic, but I’m sure MySpace peeps will be all over this in no time.

Here’s an oldie but goodie… The Crossroads by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Probably the dopest song that no one could ever be 100% sure they knew the words to.

Self Scientific

Posted in: Music

selfscientificchangeWow, I totally slept on this one. One of my favorite indie hip-hop albums is The Self Science by Self Scientific, which came out back in 2001. I’ve been waiting and waiting for their follow-up album, and it came out back in October 2005!! Now that I’m almost a year late to the party I feel kinda dumb, but that don’t mean I can’t share the new album, called Change, with all of you.

Self Scientific is known for producer DJ Khalil’s dope beats and emcee Chase Infinite’s raw and poignant lyrics that tell a very real story about struggle and staying positive. As with The Self Science, the new album Change contains not a word about blingin’ or ho’s, it’s just more of that timeless hip-hop perfectly executed yet again. Check out their MySpace profile to listen to four tracks off the new album and tell me you’re not impressed.
