Cult of the Suicide Bomber

Posted in: Misc, Video

You hear about ‘em all the time on the news, but few actually know the real story behind the modern day kamikazis known as suicide bombers. The documentary film The Cult of the Suicide Bomber attempts to explain this terrifying and deadly practice from the perspective of decorated former Middle East CIA Agent Robert Baer. Baer was actually the basis for the character George Clooney played in Syriana. The documentary examines everything from the Iran-Iraq war to the turmoil in the Middle Eastern streets today.

Take a look at the clip below that delves into the life of the youngest suicide bomber ever, a 13-year old boy from Iran. More information on the film can be found at Disinfo.com.

MySpace Hacks

myspacehacks

Definately gotta show some love to the other MySpace blogs out there. I came across MySpace Hacks, where everything from layouts, themes, widgets, plugins, videos, hacks and other goodies are written about and reviewed by a 28-year old guy named Matt. He just blogged about a great new service called FotoDunk that allows you to easily post your cell phone photos to MySpace. Blocked from accessing MySpace at school or work? Matt’s got you covered there with a solution for that too. There’s no end to the MySpace goodness. Check it out for yourself here.

Flex Your Rights

Posted in: Misc

It’s happened to all of us. At some point or another, you’ve been pulled over by the police. Whether it was for speeding or because you were driving a stolen Escalade is an entirely different story I’m sure. But no matter what the situation you need to know what your rights are when talking to the po-po’s. Here to help you out is a non-profit organization called “Flex Your Rights,” which aims to teach everyone how to understand, appreciate, and assert your constitutional rights during police encounters. Flex Your Rights creates educational media that help teach people what they need to know.

If you contribute $20 to the organization, you get your own copy of Busted: The Citizen’s Guide to Surviving Police Encounters. You can view the video on YouTube, and I also posted it below. Learn more about police encounters at FlexYourRights.org.

Atomic Books

Posted in: Misc

atomicbooksAmazon.com and Barnes&Noble can be efficient and feature the lowest prices, but they definately lack the personal touch that old school independent book sellers have. Atomic Books is one such bookstore, and their slogan is “Literary Finds For Mutated Minds!” which should tell you plenty about the literary gems that you can find up in this place. Some of the categories include Comix, Conspiracies/Disinformation, Death & Torture, Lowborw Art and Design, and Scams/Pranks/Revenge. Not your typical Amazon.com fare, eh? Atmoic Books has a frequenty updated blog and a cool webcam set up in the store so you can see what’s goin on in real time! Take a look at their bestsellers list and pick something out to show some support for this independent book store.

ILM Employee

Posted in: Misc, Video

gabeI’m assuming that everyone on this planet has seen Star Wars before. Well the special effects come from George Lucas’ own special effects studio company called Industrial Light and Magic, or ILM for short. What we have here on MySpace is the profile of a former employee and Star Wars fanatic (of course). His name is Gabe de Kaelaita, and to his credit he has a ton of production assistant credits on movies like Terminator 3, Stars Wars II, Spider Man, and Hulk.

The real story though is his MySpace profile. Gabe has so much Star Wars multimedia crap on here that it kept crashing my Firefox browser and even Opera. It does however work in Internet Explorer. Anyway, he has deleted movie footage, Captain Eo clips, voice files, upcoming movie teasers, etc. So to summarize, Gabe here wins two SpaceCadetz awards: 1) Profile most likely to crash the shit out of your browser, and 2) Biggest Star Wars Geek on Myspace (his profile says that he lives in Endor, California). Congrats to Gabe.

Worst of MySpace

Posted in: Misc

It has come to my attention that SpaceCadetz has a sister publication of sorts. I’d like to present Worst of Myspace, a blog that details the “disasters of social networking.” The site is full of hilarious commentary of various MySpace profiles that definately worthy of a slap in the face. Here’s a sample:

This guy’s profile is like a recipe of How to Not F*ck. First of all, he looks like some kind of forest-dwelling Grizzly Adams psycho motherf*cker. Unless you’re looking to mate with a bear, you need to shave your face, buddy. There are few women in the world that will make sweet love to a mound of fur, and those women are probably not straight.

If you’re in the mood for some laughs at other Myspace members’ expense, Worst of MySpace is sure to keep you entertained.

Who knew?!? Now that News Corp. owns MySpace, I guess it was only a matter of time before News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch took over. He’s up and running with a MySpace profile that features his pals Bill O’Reilly, Jack Bauer of 24, and American Idol runner-up Katherine McPhee. Oh yah and peep Hillary Clinton’s comment.
