Vote for Diafanes

Posted in: Music, Announcements

Last week SpaceCadetz blogged about a great up-and-coming Brazilian alternative rock band called Diafanes. Hopefully you took a few minutes to stop by their profile and download some of their amazing tracks. Anyway, as it turns out Diafanes is currently taking part in an intense competition to land a spot at Lollapalooza. They were 1 of 20 bands selected (out of over 2000) by Perry Farrel and other celebrity judges, and are on the 3rd round of competition. They need to place in the Top 4 to get a chance to play in Chicago on August 2nd. PLEASE, take a quick second to click on the banner below and show them your support. Thanks!

Happy 4th of July

Yeah, yeah.  I know it’s the 3rd of July, but here are my Happy 4th of July wishes right now.  SpaceCadetz has been kind of slow lately, but I have some serious interviews wrapped up and even more in the works.  Also be on the lookout for the SpaceCadetz email newsletter that you can signup for to have the SpaceCadetz blog entries delivered to your inbox daily!  Should be dope.  Thanks for your patience everyone.  Peace.

Keep A Breast

Here’s a SpaceCadetz public service announcement. I want to take a quick minute to highlight a very noble and innovative organization called Keep A Breast that focuses on increasing awareness of breast cancer treatment and prevention. KAB raises money for other breast cancer organizations by making plaster casts of women’s torsos, which are then painted by fine artists and finally auctioned off as a beautiful and unique piece of art.

Keep A Breast describesw their concept best, so I’ll just cite it here:

This approach seeks to highlight the defeatable nature of breast cancer’s epidemic-like presence by showcasing the beauty and strength within the female form. The breast casts that are created on women of all shapes and then customized by artists of all types, are physical representations of a simple truth — while breast cancer attacks all women without prejudice, it is also the powerful individual present in all women that will conquer it.

Word. Keep A Breast has already toured all over the country and will be found on the Vans Warped Tour this summer, so be sure to stop on by and support this wonderful organization. Check out below the KAB footage from last year’s events and go to www.Keep-A-Breast.org for more info.

New Icons

Posted in: Misc, Announcements

To help make browsing through SpaceCadetz a bit easier, I’ve created some simple icons that will be visual shortcut indicators for two things.

This first icon will mean that the MySpace artist has their tracks available for download through their MySpace Standalone Player.

The second icon simply means that the MySpace member has an online store where they sell anything from CDs, tshirts, buttons, or whatever the case might be.

So now you can skip through all the blog crap and get straight to the good stuff. Simple.

MySpace IM

Some of you have downloaded the MySpace IM chat program, and others will be reading about it for the first time here. If you haven’t done so already, download the program and check it out. With MySpace IM you can IM your MySpace friends, have easy access to your mail and bulletins, and set up alerts for friend requests, messages, etc. The program has its own MySpace profile where you can download the program as well as use the forum if you have having install issues or other problems. Props to MySpace for developing this much needed extension to the overall functionality of the MySpace community.

MySpace Looking for Search/Ad Partner

Posted in: Misc, Announcements

Looks like things may be changing here at MySpace.  It’s been reported that MySpace is currently in talks with both Google and MSN to provide search technology as well as ad placement.  Who will the winner be???  Stay tuned…

Downtimer Art For Sale

Posted in: Announcements, Art

downtimerAs far as indie graffiti artists go, Downtimer is at the top of the MySpace heap. He has blown up the spot in a big way over the past year or so, with more than enough exhibitions and freelance work to keep him busy. You’ve probably seen his now legendary graphic design for the 3sixteen ‘Same Number Same Hood’ tshirt, or maybe even seen his stuff on exhibit at any number of shows along the West Coast. His organic and highly complex style is becoming more and more recognized with each passing day and it’s only a matter of time before this artist hits the big time.

So, with that in mind, you might want to consider buying some of Downtimer’s art that he just put up for sale. You can view all the pieces on his MySpace blog. Prices top out at just $350 (trust me, this stuff is the deal of the frickin century) and average around $150 or so. You may never get a chance to pick up his stuff again, at least at these low prices. Act now and thank SpaceCadetz later.

Press Section

In a relatively short amount of time, SpaceCadetz has managed to attract some pretty cool attention in the blogosphere. To catalog everything, I created a Press Section with links and screenshots of any major press. Yeah, it’s basically like a trophy case for showing off, eventhough it’s not like SpaceCadetz has made front page of the Wall Street Journal or anything. But hey, you gotta start somewhere. Check out the hardware so far.

New EL-P Track

Posted in: Music, Announcements

elpEL-P threw out an update yesterday saying that the first mixed and mastered single off his new upcoming album will be premiering today on the Definitive Jux website. The track is called “Everything Must Go” and I highly suggest that everyone must go check it out.

While you’re there, poke around in the new Def Jux store, aka The Pharmacy. It’s straight cutting-edge technology and you can download anything out of the entire Def Jux catalog, including never before released tracke, live radio sesions, and freestyles. Stay current!
