MySpace: A Place for Hip-Hop

Posted in: Music, Video

aplaceforhiphop

MySpace is not one to rest on its laurels, and as proof I present to you MySpace’s A Place for Hip-Hop profile. The integration in this profile is really top-notch and it touches on virtually all aspects of the hip-hop scene from the most mainstream to the independents as well. You’ve got exclusive video interviews with Kanye West and Method Man, links to event profiles like The Power 106 Summer Splash concert, featured DJs, and a very active integrated forum. To provide daily news, MySpace smartly partnered with the most popular hip-hop website in the world, SOHH.com.

The fancy layout and graphics definately draw people in, but it’s the exclusive interviews that really lend an authentic flavor to A Place for Hip-Hop. Well done, MySpace. Check out Method Man’s interview below….

Spanky McEnstein

Posted in: Guys, Video

There’s a guy on MySpace who goes by the name Spanky McEnstein and challenges random strangers to ping pong matches on his portable mini ping pong table. It’s an interesting concept but I kind of fail to see the point. All of his challenges are recorded on video and songs like ‘Eye of the Tiger’ are dubbed in as the soundtrack. With no vocals or commentary from anyone in the videos, it gets pretty boring watching Spanky hawk his sub-par ping pong game. Does anyone know what the point of his gig is? Spanky comes across looking like a really bad imitation of Will Ferrell at best.

Streetwise

Posted in: Music, Art, Fashion

streetwiseBuzz-building company Streetwise Concepts & Culture has a dope MySpace profile and rightfully so. Streetwise is a network of 70,000 young adults that various companies tap into when they want to hype up upcoming product launches like a new movie or video game. For example, members can pick from various teams to participate in that currently include Dave Matthews Band, Talladgea Nights, and the Nokia Unwired campaign. Upon signing up to a team, members receive free music, tshirts, DVDs, video games, and lots more to help spread the word among their peers.

It’s pretty obvious that having a strong MySpace presence is an absolute must for recruiting more members and spreading the word about existing campaigns. Their roster of 70,000 members dwarfs their MySpace friend list of 3,800+, which is kind of ironic, but I’m sure MySpace peeps will be all over this in no time.

eatgrubHere to redfine the word “grub” and educate the masses about organic eating are Anna Lappe and Bryant Terry, authors of the book GRUB - Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen. According to their definition, grub is: 1) healthy, local, sustainable food for all, 2) food that supports community, justice, and sustainability, and 3) should be universal

Organic and responsible food consumption is a fast-growing trend in our nation, and this book is a great guide for all you young hipsters who want to further your understanding of all those new organic foods at the supermarket. Included in the book are twenty-four meals that make it fun and easy to make organic meals. Bryant Terry is a chef and food justice activist, so you can be sure that the recipes are as tasty as they are healthy. If you don’t believe me, hit up Bryant on MySpace and ask him about the book yourself.
