The Moscow Coup Attempt
Posted in: Music
Derek Whitacre is The Moscow Coup Attempt, and through his first album “The Failure of Shortwave Radio,” he explores the concept and breakdown of communication in the world today. The dialectic that Derek crafts for the listener is actually created via the use of old-school short wave radio station samples in conjunction with a soundscape that features acoustic, electronic, and ambient elements. For his live shows, Derek incorporates the use of a self-compiled montage film that is projected onto the stage to accompany the music he delivers with his laptop and synths. In fact, the films started out as an accompaniment to his music, but this visual element is now almost as central to the piece as the music is. Check out the video below to get a better idea of what I’m talking about. The combined impact of the music and visuals produce quite a powerful impact. Oh yah and check out The Moscow Coup Attempt website for even more audio/visual goodies.
