Edison Gem is the name of a super-talented downtempo/D&B duo that you must listen to for yourself. The group is comprised of Jadis’ (vocalist) hauntingly melodic voice and Orion’s (producer) mastery of drums and hypnotically rhythmic textures. Both are classicly trained musicians and despite having been in a relationship together and breaking up, Orion and Jadis recombined because there was simply no denying their chemistry as musicians. Orion is already known in D&B circles due to his 12″ vinyl releases on LTJ Bukem’s label Good Looking Records. Edison Gem’s sound reminds me of Kosheen, but honestly I like their stuff a bit better. I can’t wait for their debut album to drop this year. You can listen to some tracks via their MySpace media player, including the new 12″ single called “Control”.
